Open access policy and adherence to open science principles
The journal Biota. Human. Technology is committed to an open access policy and the principles of open science, which promote the free dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Open Access
Biota. Human. Technology journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle of open access to research for the public as a basis for supporting a greater global exchange of knowledge. As part of the open access model, Biota. Human. Technology journal provides access to its content in real time in the Archives section for the user or his/her institution without payment and without restrictions for further distribution or use in any medium, provided that the author(s) and the source of the quotation are indicated, which is in accordance with the provisions of the Creative Commons Attribution International 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) open license. This approach is consistent with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), according to which open access means the free and unrestricted distribution of scientific content on the Internet. This allows anyone to read, download, copy, distribute, print, index, use for programmatic analysis or any other lawful purpose, without encountering financial, legal or technical restrictions, other than those inherent to access to the Internet.
We are convinced that free access to the results of scientific research contributes to the global exchange of knowledge, increases the transparency of science and ensures its social benefit.
Licensing and copyright
The journal uses the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This means that:
-
anyone can copy, distribute, adapt and use the journal materials with the obligatory indication of authorship;
-
authors retain copyright and transfer to the journal the non-exclusive right to publication.
The main condition is the obligatory indication of authorship, including the names of the authors, the title of the article, the journal and an indication of the CC BY license. The use of materials should not be construed as an endorsement by the authors or the journal editorial board of their subsequent use.
The licensing policy is compatible with the vast majority of open access and archiving policies. Authors transfer to the journal the right of first publication of the article in accordance with the license. Authors retain the right to the manuscript, as well as the use of their own published articles. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles or use them for any other lawful purpose without seeking prior permission from the publisher or author, as long as they cite the source. The journal provides statistics on article downloads.
Publication fees
The journal does not charge a fee for submission or publication of articles (no APC – Article Processing Charges). Publication is completely free for authors.
DORA Compliance
The journal supports the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and:
-
evaluates scientific works solely on their quality and content, and not on the journal’s citation indicators;
-
encourages authors to present the significance of their research in the context of social, scientific or technological impact;
-
does not use the impact factor as the sole criterion for evaluating scientific results.
FAIR principles of scientific information
We also adhere to the FAIR principles of scientific data and metadata:
-
Findable: we encourage authors to ensure the availability of metadata, DOI and unique identifiers;
-
Accessible: journal articles are freely available through the official website;
-
Interoperable: generally accepted formats and standards in the industry for the exchange of scientific information are supported;
-
Reusable: Clear descriptions of methods, licensing, and sources allow for reuse of results.
Preprint, Postprint, and Published Version Distribution Policy
The journal Biota. Human. Technology supports open access to scientific research and encourages authors to distribute their work to increase its visibility and accessibility. Authors may download any version of their article without any embargo period and place it in institutional or other repositories of their choice. This policy governs the public circulation of preprints, postprints, and official versions of articles, promoting the principles of open science through the distribution of freely available materials.
Preprints
A preprint is the original version of a manuscript that the author submits for consideration and that has not yet been peer-reviewed. Authors have the right to deposit preprints in any open repository, indicating that this version is not peer-reviewed.
Postprints
A postprint, or accepted version of a manuscript, includes changes made after peer review but before the journal’s editorial board formally formats the article. Authors may place this version in open repositories and scholarly platforms, provided that the source is correctly cited, without editing the uploaded file, and with a clear indication that it is not the final published version.
Published versions
The final version of the article (record version) is the editorially formatted and officially published work. Authors may distribute it in open repositories, provided that the journal is correctly cited and the original content of the file is preserved without changes.
Monitoring compliance with the policy and sanctions
-
The journal encourages authors to adhere to the principles of openness, responsible research, and sharing of results for the development of the scientific community.
-
The journal monitors authors’ compliance with this policy. In case of violations, appropriate measures may be taken, including refusal to consider future submissions.
